Trai Mulls Using Cable TV Network to Increase Data Connectivity

"Can we utilize satellite TV system to give network to individuals? In India there are 100 million homes with link TVs. In the event that all these 100 million associations can be changed over into satellite TV funnels, they can convey 10 megabit for each second," said Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) executive R.S. Sharma at the tenth India Digital Summit composed by the Internet and Mobile Association of India.

"We have made suggestions to the administration on that. We are working with the division of information transfers," he said, including: "Giving network access to our kin is critical."

In August a year ago, Microsoft reported it will be working with the Andhra Pradesh government on its TV White Spaces Project, an innovation that uses unused TV range to convey minimal effort Internet availability.
